Commercial Construction

Construction & Bonding

From the developers and engineers to the builders and contractors, a construction project is a complicated endeavour.

For decades, McLean & Shaw has taken the worry out of risk assessment in Alberta’s thriving construction sector, helping businesses fully understand how to protect themselves and determining what construction insurance coverage they need, from conception to completion.

McLean & Shaw’s expert risk assessors are fully knowledgeable in the many aspects of construction insurance and will walk you through every potential hazard involved in the trade, covering more than general liability. Depending on the coverage you choose, we can help provide protection in situations such as fire, floods, work interruptions, vandalism, or forms of litigation that may arise throughout the course of the project.

Let McLean & Shaw provide the blueprint for a worry free construction site.

Areas of expertise include:

Course of construction including residential and commercial
Industrial facilities
Road construction
Wrap-up liability

Insurance Bonding

With years of experience working as an independent company, McLean & Shaw recognizes the need to protect owners from liability and minimize the risk of operating a company using bonding insurance.

Bonding is based on the services a company performs and ensures a guarantee of payment for incidences like client property damage or employee fraud. Several types of businesses from travel agencies and transportation companies to contractors and security firms benefit from the reduced risk in having some form of bonding insurance. Bonding insurance not only lends credibility to your firm, it’s also required by law for some businesses. In fact, most government contracts are required to work exclusively with bonded businesses.

Our team of experts will work alongside you and carefully explain the options available, such as contract bonds (which cover client compensation if contractual obligations aren’t met), fidelity bonds (which cover such situations as theft, fraud and property damage), as well as a number of miscellaneous bonding options that might benefit your business.

Contractors Insurance

McLean & Shaw recognizes the work a contractor puts into a job and the instability that may occur between construction projects, especially when trying to build a steady client base. That’s why we develop comprehensive insurance packages tailored to contractors, covering everything from protection for equipment, building and office, contents and liabilities associated with crime and legalities.

We can provide protection for a number of contractor positions including:

electrical work
door and window installation
road paving
concrete and cement work
land grading
finishing trades
specialty contractors

We ensure that coverage extends to other factors that go with your specific job including installation, tools, and computer breakdowns. There’s also replacement cost valuation on contractors’ equipment up to 60 months and equipment rental reimbursement expense and contractors equipment loss of earnings coverage.

We’ll take into account liability extension policies covering building material replacement costs, crane and hoist operator liability, and limited coverage for the failure of work meeting written specifications.

Make sure you have the necessary liability insurance you need to limit the stress every time you take on a major project.

Our first loyalty lies with our clients. We operate with their best interests in mind, finding the right insurer for both personal and business needs.

Being a Senior Account Executive seems a long way from getting a degree in police science, but Ryan would likely say there are more similarities between the two experiences than you would suspect. For openers, it immersed him into the world of security and exactly how much people value it. The perspective on crime not only helped Ryan with his first job as a private investigator specializing in insurance fraud, it also opened doors to the world of insurance. Ryan’s career path also includes spending 10 years in the transportation industry including roles in dispatch, heavy haul coordination and management. Ryan’s background in security and transportation has allowed him the opportunity to join the ranks of McLean & Shaw and currently focuses on commercial lines sales and services. A member of the Professional Young Brokers Association of Alberta and the Applied Systems User Group of Alberta, Ryan enjoys working at McLean & Shaw for the family-like atmosphere and the broad spectrum of clients that the company will write business for. Working as part of a great team, Ryan likes the opportunities for growth and development and the challenges that push him to deliver even better service. Ryan also has a strong passion for hockey and has been involved in the sport as a player, coach and director for nearly 30 years. He also enjoys his time with his family, especially lending support to his children in their sports and hobbies.
