Our first loyalty lies with our
Rogers McLean Shaw is proud of our heritage. Today, we are celebrating more than 60 years in the insurance industry—and it all began as a result of Al McLean’s vision for success.
Our founder, Alaister W. McLean
Al McLean leaves his career as a travelling passenger agent for Canadian National Railway to open an insurance agency in Edmonton. He receives financial assistance from his brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Allard, and businessman Zane Feldman to start A.W. McLean Agencies Ltd. The agency grows under Al’s leadership and is recognized for its professional service, commitment and expertise.
Al becomes a well-respected leader in the insurance industry. He eventually serves as director of the Canadian Federation of Insurance Agents and Brokers Association as well as president of the Insurance Agent’s Association of Alberta.
Rogers McLean Shaw is proud to continue to serve the insurance needs of some of Al’s original clients today. This is an honor we do not take for granted.
Don Shaw becomes principal of A.W. McLean and the company name changes to McLean & Shaw Insurance Inc. Don was a good friend of Al McLean and was one of Edmonton’s risk managers. Don continues the grow of the company until 1994.
Doug Laird joins the company, becomes shareholder and is appointed as president.
McLean & Shaw Insurance announces its partnership with Calgary-based Rogers Insurance, one of the largest independent brokerages in Canada. Rogers acquires a minority interest in McLean & Shaw Insurance, while Doug Laird, President, and Ryan Lyster, Managing Partner, become shareholders in Rogers Insurance Ltd. This partnership provides access to additional markets, which offers more choice for customers.
As part of this transaction, McLean & Shaw Insurance changes its name to Rogers McLean Shaw Insurance Ltd.
